Further requirements may be added in the future as required by Scouts NSW.

Detailed instructions for each step.

Apply for a Working with Children Check (WWCC):

A WWCC is required by anyone who has turned 18 and is attending or participating in Scouting activities.  You will need to apply online for a WWCC number and attend a Service NSW office with your ID before the WWC checking will be initiated.  Your WWCC will need to be renewed every 5 years for it to remain current.  There is no cost to apply for a WWCC as a volunteer.

If you already have a current WWCC, you should use that number.  It can either be a Volunteer number (ending with V) or a paid employee number (ending with E).  Do not apply for a second number if you already have a current one as this will slow down the process.   If you think you may have previously applied for a WWCC number, navigate to this link to search for a current number.

New Adult Helper Registration:

As a new member of the Scout Association, you will need to register as an Adult Helper.  There is no cost to register as an Adult Helper.  For an adult (anyone who has reached their 18th birthday) to attend regular meetings, certain District, Region or State based activities, or any overnight Scouting activity, you will need to be registered as a current Adult Helper.  Refer also to the Police Check section below.  To maintain this registration, you are required to complete two e-learning modules - these should take less than 2 hours to complete.  Note:  These modules will need to be redone every 2 years.  The current Adult Helper membership is required for overnight activities even if you are not staying overnight.  You will need to renew your membership after commencement of each "Registration period" (currently each April) for it to remain current.  Follow the "Adult Helper Registration or Renewal process" below.

Existing Adult Helper Renewal:

All previously registered adult members will need to renew their membership after commencement of each "Registration period" (currently each April) for it to remain current.  There is no cost to renew as an Adult Helper.  For an adult (anyone who has reached their 18th birthday) to attend regular meetings, certain District, Region or State based activity, or any overnight Scouting activity, you will need to be registered as a current Adult Helper.  To maintain this registration, you are required to complete two e-learning modules - these should take less than 2 hours to complete.  Note:  These modules will need to be redone every 2 years.  Follow the "Adult Helper Registration or Renewal process" below.

Note:  If you had previously registered as an Adult Helper and the two e-learning modules had not been completed or the membership was not renewed during the previous "Registration period", you will need to send an email to training@nsw.scouts.com.au and request for your e-learning access to be reinstated.  Your access will be reinstated for a period of 7 days to enable you to complete the 2 modules.  Only then will your Scouts NSW membership be reinstated.  You may not be able to register as a returning member until these modules are completed.

Adult Helper Registration or Renewal process:

You should now be registered.

Police Check:

For new Adult Helpers or if your previous Police Check has expired, Scouts NSW will initiate a request for a Police Check on your behalf.  You will receive an email from the Police Force requesting a reply within 7 days.  Once you have responded to this request, the application can usually take between 1 day and up to 4 weeks (or longer) to be completed.  If the Police Check is successful, Scouts NSW will activate your membership and send you an email with your e-Learning credentials.  These will enable you to sign in and complete the e-Learning modules.  The Police Check will expire after 3 years.  Usually within 3 months of its expiry, Scouts NSW will initiate another request for a Police Check.  Please contact GL.Epping@nsw.scout.com.au if you do not receive the email from the Police which is requesting identifying documents, or if you did not respond within the 7 day limit.

Mandatory e-Learning Modules:

You will need to complete the 2 mandatory e-learning modules.  These can usually be completed in less than 2 hours.

If you have any questions about this you can contact us at GL.Epping@nsw.scouts.com.au.
