Scouthike 2014 Information

posted 26 Apr 2014, 17:21 by Epping Scouts   [ updated 26 Apr 2014, 19:09 ]
This page provides Epping Scouts and their parents with everything they need to know about our arrangements for Scouthike this year
  • Mount Wilberforce Lookout Reserve

Who is going? Epping has 3 patrols registered for Scouthike this year, these are listed here. In total, there are currently 928 Scouts registered in 176 Patrols, and 378 registered as venturers/rovers/parents/leaders for this year's Scouthike.
  • What do Parents need to know about Scouthike? Everything a Parent needs to know about Scouthike is in this "Letter to Parents". If you cannot find an answer to your question here, please contact a leader.
  • When do we leave and where from?
  • Scouts are transported by bus to the Scouthike location on Friday 2nd May. This year, all our Scouts will be departing on Bus Number 36 from West Pennant Hills - Mt Wilberforce Lookout Reserve  It is very important that you know where the departure location is and that all your Patrol arrives there between 6.45pm and 7.00pm at the latest as the buses will be leaving soon afterwards.  If any member of your Patrol is late, they will miss the bus and will need to find their own way to ScoutHike. See attached map.
  • What do I need to do before departure? Eat an early dinner - there will be no dinner catered for on Friday night. You may bring some supper if you want to.
  • When do we return and where do we get picked up from? Scouts will depart the forest at about 2:45pm on Sunday 4th May. The pickup point is the same as the drop off point above - Mt. Wilberforce Lookout Reserve. It usually takes about 2 hours to get back depending on traffic. The Scouthike organisers will publish ETAs for each bus on the Scouthike web site here, please check on Sunday.
  • Preparing for Scouthike - We will be finalising all our preparations for Scouthike on Wednesday 30th April at our first meeting back in term 2. This will involve Scouthike patrol members in purchasing their supplies based on the Menu worked out at our special Scouthike prep meeting, distributing these supplies together with the patrol gear to all patrol members in such a way that they all meet the "your pack to weigh no more than 20% of your bodyweight" rule. Please make sure that you bring the following with you on Wednesday:
    • Your backpack packed with your personal gear. See here for a checklist and packing instructions.
    • If you haven't done so already - $20 in cash as your share in the cost of the food and supplies to be purchased.
