Scout's District Camp - 9/10 June, 2013

The older Cubs, those who have turned 10, are invited to join the Scouts for the last 2 days of their District Camp.  This year the camp will be held at the Cataract Scout Camp (the location for the next Scout Jamboree in 2016).  The  Annual District Camp is attended by all Scout troops in our district and there are usually somewhere between 70 to 100 Scouts.
 
You can arrive from about 9:00am Sunday 9th June, join in with the Scout's activities, camp overnight, then do more of the same on Monday, leaving around 2:30pm.  Monday is the Queen's Birthday holiday so you will not be missing out on school.  The cost for the 2 days is $40 which includes camping fees and food.  Refer to the attached instruction on how to get to Cataract Scout Camp.
 
There will be an Archery activity, run by the Camp Wardens, from 10am to 12 noon on Sunday.  You will need to notify Shaggy if you want to participate in this activity.
 
For those who attend the camp you will be part of the way towards earning the "Try Scouts" badge which you can wear on the right shoulder of your Cub shirt until you transfer into the Scout section.  The aim of the Try Scouts badge is to encourage 10 year old Cubs to interact with their local Scout troop by trying 2 Scout section activities, one being a camp or outdoor activity and the other attending a troop meeting.  The badge is presented by the Patrol Leader who is participating with the Cub.
 
What to bring:
-  Mess kit
-  Sleeping bag
-  Sleeping mat or air mattress (no stretchers please)
-  Clothes suitable for cold weather (thermals, beanie, thick socks etc) - it can get very cold at night in Winter.
-  Change of clothes.
-  Raincoat and jumper
-  Towel and toiletries - there are showers and toilets at the campsite
-  A wide brimmed hat, preferably with a chin strap
-  Torch with a spare set of batteries
-  Water bottle
-  Plastic garbage bag to put wet clothes in
 
Electronic games and toys are not to be brought to camp.  The leaders will not be responsible for loss or damage to these.  If you need to have a phone with you, you must give it to the Scout Leader to look after for you.  There will be no need for you to bring lollies or soft drinks etc with you .  They can make a terrible mess in the tents.
 
Parent helpers are welcome to attend at no charge.  Tents can be provided if you do not have one of your own.
