Sirius Cup Regatta - 17th - 19th March, 2017

posted 27 Jan 2017, 21:14 by Epping Cubs   [ updated 5 Mar 2017, 23:09 by Epping Scouts Group Admin ]

The 67th Sirius Cup is on at Balmoral Beach.  The Cubs will be arriving at Balmain Park on Friday evening from 6pm.  Some will arrive on Saturday morning.  After registering with your Section Leader and obtaining your coloured wrist band, you will be able to enter some of the canoeing events.  There will be time for swimming and playing on beautiful Balmoral Beach.  In the evening, there are usually a couple of movies being shown on the big screen (sheet) for us to watch before sleeping overnight in tents.

Sunday morning starts bright and early with the Iron Man events for all age groups.  There will be more time for swimming while the Scouts go on their annual canoe trek to Chinamans Beach then under the Spit Bridge, a round trip of about 5km.  Pack the boats and canoes back on the trailers, pack up the tents and camp site and head back to the hall to unload everything and pack it away.

Assistance is required from parents to help with setting up and packing away.  While you are at Balmoral, why not stay for a while to enjoy the excitement and the wonderful atmosphere of camping at one of Australia's most exclusive camping spots with million dollar views.  You can also chat with other parents and leaders while helping with preparing the meals and snacks.

More details and the program is published here:  http://siriuscup.webs.com/page2.html
Attached is a copy of the permission note that needs to be completed by all people attending the event.

Astronomy Night - 8th August, 2016

posted 1 Aug 2016, 18:33 by Epping Cubs   [ updated 5 Aug 2016, 05:33 ]

The night's Cub activities will be in normal hall (North Epping) if weather is unsuitable for astro activities. Baloo will send out an e-mail late Monday afternoon (between 5:00 and 5:30).  This will state if the astronomy activity is on or if we are to meet at the hall due to unsuitable weather. Only come to Albuera Rd if the e-mail says it is still on. Go straight down the driveway to meet at the back of the house.  Refer to the E1 for the full address.

Note the earlier start time of 6:30 p.m. This is to allow viewing of some objects which will be setting in the western sky early in the evening. Cubs who arrive at the "standard" start time of 7:00 p.m. will, of course, be able to join in from that point.

If due to bad weather we meet at North Epping hall, the start time will be 7:00 p.m. (19:00) as normal.

Should the weather be unsuitable, we will try again for the same activities one week later.

Wear uniform with suitable warmth for evening & sturdy shoes.

Parents, guardians & parent/guardian accompanied siblings are welcome to join in & see some of the wonders of the sky! However, they must inform a Leader if, for some reason, they and their Cub are withdrawing from an organised activity.

Bring torch (optional).

During the evening, Cubs will also be doing some activities under leader supervision in the nearby Forest Park and will walk via the footpath / footbridge between venues (also under supervision).

After the official close of the evening at 20:30, if the weather is suitable there may be an opportunity for more telescope viewing of objects requiring a darker sky. However, this would ONLY be available for Cubs being supervised by their parent / guardian, for supervision and safety reasons. Remaining Cubs without supervising parents or guardians would NOT be allowed to participate in this extended activity.

Please complete an E1 for every person participating in this activity, bring them along on the night and give them to one of the leaders.

District Camp - 8th to 9th June 2014

posted 31 May 2014, 21:14 by Epping Cubs   [ updated 31 May 2014, 21:14 ]

The older Cubs are invited to join the Scouts for the last 2 days of their District Camp.  This year the camp will be held at the Glenfield Scout Activity Centre.  The  Annual District Camp is attended by all Scout troops in our district and there are usually somewhere between 70 to 100 Scouts.

You can arrive from about 8:00am Sunday 8th June, join in with the Scout's activities, camp overnight, then do more of the same on Monday, leaving around 12:30pm.  Monday is the Queen's Birthday holiday so you will not be missing out on school.  The cost for the 2 days is $20 which includes camping fees and food.  Refer to the attached instruction on how to get to Cataract Scout Camp.

There will be a Camp fire on Sunday night where you will be able to join in with the Scouts .

For those who attend the camp you will be part of the way towards earning the "Try Scouts" badge which you can wear on the right shoulder of your Cub shirt until you transfer into the Scout section.  The aim of the Try Scouts badge is to encourage the older Cubs to interact with their local Scout troop by trying 2 Scout section activities, one being a camp or outdoor activity and the other attending a troop meeting.  The badge is presented by the Patrol Leader who is participating with the Cub.

What to bring:
-  Mess kit
-  Sleeping bag
-  Sleeping mat or air mattress (no stretchers please)
-  Clothes suitable for cold weather (thermals, beanie, thick socks etc) - it can get very cold at night in Winter.
-  Change of clothes.
-  Raincoat and jumper
-  Towel and toiletries - there are showers and toilets at the campsite
-  A wide brimmed hat, preferably with a chin strap
-  Torch with a spare set of batteries
-  Water bottle
-  Plastic garbage bag to put wet clothes in

Electronic games and toys are not to be brought to camp.  The leaders will not be responsible for loss or damage to these.  If you need to have a phone with you, you must give it to the Scout Leader to look after for you.  There will be no need for you to bring lollies or soft drinks etc with you .  They can make a terrible mess in the tents.

Parent helpers are welcome to attend at no charge.  Tents can be provided if you do not have one of your own.

If you have any questions about this, please contact Shaggy (Mathew Lim) the Scout Leader on 0404 058 060.
