Centenary Badge Competition

The Epping Scout Group is running a competition where current members of the Epping Scout Group are invited to design a badge to commemorate the Group's centenary.

The Centenary Badge is to incorporate the following elements:

  •  The Epping Cocky
  • The current 4 colours of the Group scarf (Brown, Red, Blue and Green)
  • The Scout Arrowhead (the symbol within the purple World Scouting badge)
  • No larger than 80mm as a square, rectangle, circle or other regular shape
The rest is up to your imagination.

The design can include aspects of the Group’s history.

  • The Group was started on 3rd July 1915
  • The Group has hosted Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Sea Scouts, Air Scouts, Venturers and Rovers
  • The Epping Group has been a parent group for many other local Groups
The competition is open to all current members of the Group.  Entry forms are available from the Group website and can be submitted on paper or in an electronic format.  Boxes will be placed in both halls to receive the entries.  You are invited to submit up to 5 original designs which must be received by the judges by 30th November 2014 extended to 31st December.  These will be judged by a panel chosen by the Group Committee who have relevant design and Scouting backgrounds.  The competition will be judged on your design, not your drawing ability.  Judging will take place later in the year and the winners of each section (ie Joeys, Cubs etc) will be announced at the major centenary function in July 2015.  All of the entries that have been submitted will be put on display at this event where voting for the “People’s Choice” award will be completed.

A prize will be awarded to the winning entry from each of the youth sections.  The Centenary badge will be created from these designs but may need to be modified to suit the manufacturing process.

As part of the centenary celebrations, a centenary badge will be given to each of the current members of the Group.   Those invested during the 12 months from 3rd July 2015 will be able to wear the Centenary Badge on their scarf in place of the Epping Cocky badge.
